Ingredients 101

We posted a lot of recipes on the blog without even considering that some of you never cooked before.

For our recipes a lot of things are needed. Many times, I got discouraged while reading through Martha Stewart recipes.....  and gave up. We really want to avoid that feeling...

In order to help you. I thought it might be good to make a list of the necessary ingredients needed to cook. I promise I will not add fancy ingredients such as 4 spices from Tahiti that I saw in Stewart recipe. By the way where to find such ingredient?!!

Here is a list of the basic ingredients you need in your food pantry.
Flour, sugar, oil, vinegar, soy sauce, salt, pepper. It's the basic!!!
In addition, it might be good to add nutmeg, curry powder, paprika, basil, rosemary, chili powder and cayenne pepper. Finally for the ones who like baking, we need baking powder, extract of vanilla bean, corn starch.

Next time you go to the grocery shopping buy what is missing from the list, then you'll handle every recipe.

Bon Appetit !!!!!

Crêpes

Is an easy and fast recipe to make. We often do crepes while having friend at home for dinner. It is convenient, fast, inexpensive and fun! How do we make Crêpes?

Crêpes are made by pouring a thin liquid batter onto a hot frying pan or flat circular hot plate, often with a trace of butter on the pan's surface. The batter is spread evenly over the cooking surface of the pan or plate either by tilting the pan or by distributing the batter with an offset spatula.
Common savory fillings for crêpes served for lunch or dinner are cheese, ham, eggs, mushrooms.
When sweet crepes can be filled and topped with various sweet toppings, including Nutella spread, preserves, sugar (granulated or powdered), ice cream, lemon juice, whipped cream, fruit spreads, custard, slices of fruit and melted chocolate.
My favorite filling for sweet one is lemon juice and sugar.

What do we need to realize this recipe ?

1 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
3eggs
2 cups milk
2 tablespoons butter melted
Directions:
Sift together flour, sugar and salt; set aside. In a large bowl, beat eggs and milk together with an electric mixer. Beat in flour mixture until smooth; stir in melted butter.Heat a lightly oiled griddle or frying pan over medium high heat. Pour or scoop the batter onto the griddle, using approximately 2 tablespoons for each crepe. Tip and rotate pan to spread batter as thinly as possible. Brown on both sides and serve hot.

Green Salad

 Ensalada Verde

One of the many favorite typical plates of my native country the Dominican Republic is "ensalada verde" or the famous green salad as many of you know it. This plate is the number one priority in my house's table because it feels weird eating lunch without a delicious salad to go with it. This salad can be customized. Also, there are many other ingredients that can be added to make it the way you like. The vinaigrette dressing is the most important ingredient of all. Please note that the quantity of ingredients used for the salad, would depend on the number of servings you want. The amount of ingredients I used for this recipe serves six people.

Items needed:

Lettuce
White onion
Avocado
Tomatoes
Sliced beets
White vinegar
Virgin olive oil
Sweet Corn
Salt
Steps to follow:
Have to make the dressing first
  •   Chop the onion and add two cups of white vinegar.
  • Then add 1/4 cup of virgin olive oil.
  •  Add salt.
  • Mix it up and put it aside for about 1½ hrs.
    .

 Lettuce

  • After you have washed the lettuce, chop it in pieces as you like.

  • Now, add the tomatoes, avocado, sweet corn, and chop beet.

  • Final step is to pour the vinaigrette dressing making sure it covers the whole salad.
